English: An illustration and description of a Cinnamomum tree in an Arabic manuscript of Dioscorides’ De Materia Medica, copied in Samarqand, on a Monday in the middle of Ramaḍān 475/February 1083. It is one of the oldest known Arabic manuscripts of 'De Materia Medica'. Dioscorides wrote that cinnamon was useful in combating a number of illnesses, from coughs to kidney diseases.
